How Do You Turn a Guest Into a Brand Ambassador?

Some guests leave and never mention you again.

Some guests leave and tell everyone they know. They send the link to their sister. They post the sunrise. They answer a stranger’s question in a Facebook group with your name.

The second kind is a brand ambassador. Nobody is born one. They are made in the small moments between arriving and driving home, and most of those moments are yours to design.

Here are ten ways South West tourism and hospitality businesses do it. None of them need a budget.

1. Put your reviews where people decide

A review sitting on Google does one job. The same review on your booking page, next to the button, does another.

Take your best three and put them where a visitor is making up her mind: the room page, the tour page, the menu page. Name and town, not initials. Ambassadors start as readers who saw someone like them say yes.

2. Ask at the moment of joy

Most businesses ask for a review a week later by email. By then the feeling has faded and the inbox is full.

Ask when the whale breaches. Ask at checkout when they say they did not want to leave. A QR code on the counter, a card in the room, a line from the person who served them. The moment is the message.

3. Make the photo spot obvious

Every property and venue in this region has one place where the light is right. Most guests never find it.

Mark it. A small sign, your handle on it, the best time of day. You are not asking anyone to post. You are removing the reason they did not.

4. Reply to every tag within a day

A guest who tags you has already done the hard part. Silence tells them it did not matter.

Reply with something that proves a person read it. Name the room. Name the dish. A guest who is answered posts again. A guest who is ignored does not.

5. Give them something worth passing on

Not a discount. Something useful. Your list of the five places locals actually eat. The walk that is not on the tourist map. The recipe for the thing they asked about at breakfast.

A guest cannot forward a good stay. She can forward a good list, and your name travels with it.

6. Repost their content, with credit and permission

The photo a guest took of your deck at dusk is more persuasive than the one you paid for. It has a person in it who chose to be there.

Ask before you share. Credit them by handle. Being featured by a business they love is the moment a guest starts describing herself as a regular.

7. Reward the return, not the first booking

Discounting the first stay trains people to wait for a sale. Rewarding the second stay trains them to come back.

Early access to summer dates. The room with the view at the standard rate. A winter invitation written to them by name. The reward is being known.

8. Make the referral easy to say out loud

Nobody remembers a code like SW26XZ. Everybody remembers a word.

Give your ambassadors one word to pass on, and give the friend who uses it something real. Track it in your booking engine so you know which guests are doing your marketing for you, then thank them properly.

9. Give them more than you to recommend

A guest recommending your stay is also recommending the winery you sent her to, the surf lesson you booked for her kids and the bakery you told her to reach before nine.

Partner with the businesses around you. The more of the weekend you can hand her, the more of it she will hand on. Everything is connected.

10. Let them shape what comes next

Ask your best guests to pick the name of the new cabin. Ask them which dish should stay on the summer menu. Ask them what you should stop doing.

People defend what they helped build. That is the whole difference between a customer and an ambassador.

Where do you start?

Pick one. Number two is the fastest. Number nine is the one that changes a region.

If you want a second pair of eyes on where your guests fall silent, a thirty minute strategy call is where we usually find it.
